After watching a road accident victim bleed profusely while on his way to help, Leo Sebastian Mavely recognized the need for something revolutionary that could advance healthcare in India. Working on his dream, in 2008, in a start-up incubator in Ahmedabad, Mavely launched his company, Axio Biosolutions Private Limited. Now nearly a decade later, Mavely and his company are a global name with Axiostat Haemostatic Dressing, a 100% chitosan dressing which stops bleeding within minutes of application. Axiostat is India’s First Trauma Haemostat and used extensively by Indian army. With his name firmly on the Fortune 40 under 40 India list of emerging business leaders, for 3 years consecutively, Mavely’s vision for advanced, affordable healthcare is becoming a reality. Originating from Irinjalakuda in Kerala, Mavely is a bio-engineer. Even with a rapidly growing company, he believes in prioritizing his business goals to research and development. An ISO 13485 certified company, its product Axiostat has been used extensively by the Indian Army, the Central Reserve Police Force, the Border Security Force and the National Security Guard. More recently, it has been used in the Indian surgical strike in 2016 and the Russia-Ukraine warfront in 2014.Since then, it has been in the limelight winning numerous awards and recognitions. Infact, Leo was invited as a speaker at the prestigious Indian Science congress in 2010. Mavely has also been honoured with the 2012 CNBC Samsung Social Innovation Award, the 2013 Anjani Mashelkar Inclusive Innovation Award and the Silicon Valley challenge award 2014 among others. Son of retired bank manager, Sebastian Mavely and Lucy, Leo Sebastian Mavely was a national level basketball player who represented Kerala State for 5 consecutive years. He is passionate about sports and is also an avid mountain trekker.
