Rama Devi Lanka leads the Emerging Technologies Wing of the Information Technologies, Electronics, and Communication Department (ITE&C) of the government of Telangana, India. Her role is: to formulate and execute policy frameworks in frontier technologies such as AI, Blockchain, Cloud, Drones, Cyber Security, and others that would create a conducive ecosystem for the growth of emerging technologies in the State; and to build institutions of excellence and assist the government in leveraging technologies to create impact and improve lives. She was instrumental in setting up institutions of Excellences or CoEs in Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Security, eWaste, and Additive Manufacturing.
She is responsible for implementing several innovative projects that use emerging technologies, just to name a few – ‘Medicine from the Sky’ which delivers vaccines and medicines using drones, Blockchain for traceability of seeds and food products, smart phone based evoting that uses AI and blockchain. Deployed an AI pest Management tool that helped farmers to prevent significant damage to crops, increasing their income and thereby improving their livelihoods. She is heading the Web 3.0 Regulatory Sandbox to help startups navigate the regulatory landscape.
Prior to joining (ITE&C Dept.) she worked at National Institute for Smart Government (NISG) and was involved in a number of e-Governance projects, and had a brief stint with start-ups in Silicon Valley, US. She holds a Post Graduate Degree in Environmental Engineering from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University and an Executive Program in Business Management from the Indian Institute of Management, Kolkotta. She is the recipient of the Digital India Award from the Hon’ble President of India for implementing Machine Learning based Nutrient Management solution that helps farmers, and also received the Women Achiever’s award from the Government of Telangana State, in 2022
