Electric two-wheeler manufacturer Ultraviolette has delivered 183 units of its X-47 Skyforce electric motorcycle to the Kolkata Police. The Skyforce is a law-enforcement variant based on the company’s X-47 Crossover and has been developed with a dedicated electronics architecture to meet the operational requirements of police personnel.
The X-47 Skyforce supports police-specific equipment such as sirens, hooters, a public address system, and LED blinkers. It also gets holders for a microphone and walkie-talkie, along with side panniers for carrying equipment. According to the company, these modifications have been integrated into the existing X-47 platform without changes to its core mechanical and electrical hardware.
In terms of performance, the X-47 Skyforce claims an IDC-rated range of 211 km and a top speed of 145 kmph. The motorcycle features a 41mm upside-down front fork and a rear monoshock, with 170mm of wheel travel at both ends. Braking duties are handled by Bybre disc brakes, including a 320mm front disc and a 230mm rear disc.
Range and charging infrastructure remain important considerations for the adoption of electric motorcycles in police fleets. While the motorcycle offers a claimed 211 km range under IDC test conditions, the real-world range can vary depending on load, speed, and usage patterns. Electric motorcycles could be particularly suitable for urban police operations involving shorter patrol distances and frequent stops.
According to Ultraviolette, electric motorcycles can offer lower running and maintenance costs per kilometre compared with petrol-powered vehicles. However, actual fleet-level savings will depend on factors such as electricity tariffs, charging infrastructure, and vehicle usage intensity.
The delivery of the X-47 Skyforce to the Kolkata Police highlights the growing adoption of electric mobility among government and law-enforcement agencies in India. Police forces in cities including Delhi, Pune, and Bengaluru have also previously trialled or incorporated electric two-wheelers into their fleets.
