New Delhi based lithium-ion battery manufacturer Trontek has announced plans to create more than 500 new jobs by FY27, expanding its workforce from 967 to around 1,400 employees. The company said the hiring initiative comes in response to rising demand across electric mobility, residential energy storage, and grid applications as India accelerates its transition toward cleaner energy solutions.
The expansion represents one of the largest recruitment phases in the company’s two-decade history and reflects growing confidence among domestic battery manufacturers in the long-term growth of India’s clean energy market.
The new roles will cover production, quality systems, battery engineering, research and development, logistics, and service operations. A large portion of the R&D hiring will focus on battery management systems (BMS), thermal safety engineering, lifecycle optimisation, and product validation under Indian operating conditions.
According to Samrath S. Kochar, Founder and CEO of Trontek, India’s battery ecosystem is entering a strong growth phase. He noted that as demand rises across mobility and home energy segments, competitive advantage will increasingly depend on deep engineering capabilities and resilient manufacturing systems.
In addition to hiring, the company plans to invest in specialised in-house expertise through structured technical training programmes. These programmes will focus on lithium-ion battery assembly, safety compliance, electronics integration, and energy storage systems, helping prepare the workforce for advanced battery manufacturing requirements.
Kochar added that modern battery innovation goes beyond chemistry and increasingly relies on intelligent system design, safety architecture, and lifecycle performance. Expanding R&D capabilities will enable the company to develop locally engineered solutions capable of competing globally.
The announcement comes amid strong momentum in India’s battery storage industry. Lithium-ion adoption has accelerated across electric two- and three-wheelers, rooftop solar installations, and distributed energy systems, supported by government policies promoting EV adoption and renewable energy.
Founded in 2004, Trontek manufactures batteries used in more than 400,000 e-rickshaws and 600,000 electric two-wheelers across India. Its product portfolio also includes telecom infrastructure batteries, grid-scale energy storage solutions, and residential energy systems.
The company’s IP67-rated EV chargers are deployed across the country, supported by a nationwide sales and after-sales service network. With the latest expansion, Trontek aims to strengthen domestic battery manufacturing capacity, reduce supply chain dependencies, and contribute to employment generation in India’s rapidly evolving clean energy sector.
