Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has launched its first fully electric SUV, the Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella, at an introductory price of Rs. 23.60 lakh (ex-showroom). The company introduced the SUV in a single E3 variant on May 29, 2026. The model is the first battery electric vehicle (BEV) to be manufactured at Toyota’s Bidadi facility in Karnataka and marks a major shift in the company’s electric mobility strategy in India.
The Urban Cruiser Ebella is powered by a 61 kWh battery pack that delivers 128 kW (around 172 bhp) and 193 Nm of torque. The SUV supports both AC and DC fast charging. According to TKM, its express maintenance service can be completed within 45 minutes. Customers can also use the Toyota i-Connect platform for remote charging control, charging scheduling and real-time battery monitoring.
In terms of design, the Ebella follows Toyota’s ‘Urban Tech’ design philosophy and features an aerodynamic profile, LED lighting and 18-inch alloy wheels. The SUV will be available in five monotone and four dual-tone colour options. Positioned in the mid-size SUV category, the Ebella sits above the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder in Toyota’s product lineup.
Inside the cabin, the SUV gets a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. Other premium features include ventilated front seats, sliding and reclining rear seats, a panoramic sunroof, 12-colour ambient lighting and a JBL sound system.
On the safety front, the Urban Cruiser Ebella comes equipped with Level-2 ADAS, seven airbags, a 360-degree camera and a high-tensile steel body structure. While Toyota has not detailed the exact ADAS functions for the Indian version, the package is expected to include adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist and automatic emergency braking.
Toyota Kirloskar Motor is offering an eight-year battery warranty with the Ebella. The company has also introduced Assured Buyback and Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) financing options, allowing customers to purchase the vehicle without the battery and pay separately for battery usage. Toyota said more than 500 service outlets across India have been equipped with EV diagnostic tools and charging infrastructure, while over 2,500 technicians have been trained for EV servicing.
Toyota Kirloskar Motor is a joint venture between Toyota Motor Corporation and Kirloskar Systems Limited. The company operates two manufacturing plants in Bidadi, Karnataka, with a combined annual production capacity of 3.42 lakh units.
The launch of the Urban Cruiser Ebella comes at a time when India’s electric SUV market is witnessing rapid growth. Tata Motors continues to dominate the segment with models such as Nexon EV and Punch EV, while Mahindra & Mahindra, Hyundai Motor India and Kia India are also intensifying competition in the Rs. 18–30 lakh electric SUV segment.
