Vikram Singh Mann, Director General of the Telangana Fire, Disaster Response, Emergency and Civil Defence Department, conducted an extensive inspection of EV charging infrastructure on Wednesday. The visit included a public charging station in the Kokapet corridor and a nearby residential complex.
The primary objective of the inspection was to evaluate fire safety standards required for the rapidly expanding electric vehicle ecosystem. At the Kokapet site, Mann reviewed operations at a public charging station operated by ChargeZone, where he assessed the safety of high-capacity DC fast chargers in consultation with technical experts.
Key focus areas included critical safety mechanisms such as earth-leakage protection, thermal monitoring systems, and automatic shutdown protocols during power surges. The inspection aimed to identify potential risks in high-traffic EV charging environments and ensure the development of stringent fire safety and maintenance regulations for commercial operators.
Mann also visited a high-rise residential complex to examine the challenges of integrating EV infrastructure in residential settings. Special attention was given to fire safety in enclosed parking areas and the adequacy of existing firefighting systems to support long-term EV adoption.
He emphasised that insights from these field inspections will play a crucial role in drafting comprehensive and effective state regulations, ensuring that safety standards keep pace with the growth of electric mobility.
