Boosting electric mobility in the trucking segment, Tata Motors has taken a significant step by commencing deliveries of its Prima E.55S electric prime movers to BillionE Mobility. The company has also secured an additional order of 250 units, underscoring the growing demand for heavy-duty zero-emission trucks in India.
The electric truck fleet will be deployed in phases across key freight corridors including Gujarat, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Delhi NCR, and Haryana. These trucks will primarily be used for long-haul transportation of steel, cement, and other industrial goods.
The handover ceremony was attended by Girish Wagh, MD & CEO of Tata Motors, Kartikey Hariyani, Founder of BillionE Mobility and ChargeZone, and Rajesh Kaul, Vice President and Business Head – Trucks at Tata Motors, along with senior officials from both organizations.
BillionE Mobility stated that it plans to induct 1,500 heavy-duty electric vehicles into its fleet over the next 6 to 18 months. Since starting operations in 2024, the company has already clocked over 3 million clean energy kilometres with a fleet of more than 125 trucks.
The Prima E.55S is built on Tata Motors’ i-MoEV platform and is equipped with a 450 kWh battery, offering a range of up to 350 km on a single charge. It features advanced technologies such as an e-axle, regenerative braking, a 3-speed auto-shift transmission, and fast-charging capability.
On the safety front, the truck includes a Driver Monitoring System, Lane Departure Warning, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System, Electronic Braking System, Cruise Control, and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).
According to Rajesh Kaul, the Prima E.55S has been developed with a focus on performance, uptime, energy efficiency, and total cost of ownership, making it well-suited for scaling electric trucking in India.
