Electric motorcycle maker Raptee.HV on Thursday said it partnered with Rajalakshmi Engineering College (REC) to launch a Centre of Excellence for electric mobility in Chennai, aimed at providing students with hands-on exposure to electric vehicle engineering and real-world mobility systems.
The facility, inaugurated on World EV Day by Abhay Meganathan S, Vice Chairman, Rajalakshmi Engineering College, is part of Raptee.HV Academy, the company initiative to bring practical EV engineering and industry exposure into educational institutions.
The two organisations have also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to formalise a long-term industry-academia partnership covering industrial training, site visits, guest lectures, internships, industry-oriented courses and joint research.
Spread across 3,000 sq. ft., the Centre of Excellence has been established with an investment of ₹50 lakh. The facility houses a Raptee.HV T30 electric motorcycle, core EV components, a motorcycle equipped with digital twin technology, interactive learning modules and dedicated spaces for experimentation and prototyping.
The lab is designed for students across Electrical, Electronics and Automotive Engineering. It will provide practical exposure to battery packs, electric motors, power electronics, charging infrastructure, vehicle communication systems and real-time diagnostics.
“The next generation of mobility will be built by engineers who understand the machine from the cell to the software. But you cannot build that understanding from a classroom alone. You have to get your hands dirty, take systems apart, question how they work, experiment and build again. The HV Lab is our attempt to bring that experience into engineering education. If even a few students walk out of this lab wanting to build the next great EV technology, we have done our job,” said Dinesh Arjun, Co-founder & CEO, Raptee.HV.
Under the partnership, students and faculty will gain opportunities to work with Raptee.HV on real-world EV engineering challenges. The collaboration is also expected to create avenues for internships, technical training and joint research projects.

The college has an existing research ecosystem comprising 15 Centres of Excellence covering areas such as artificial intelligence, medical imaging, machine vision, renewable energy, data science, digital manufacturing, and the Internet of Things (IoT).
