The New Delhi Municipal Council (New Delhi Municipal Council) has announced a major push towards green mobility by offering a 50% rebate on parking charges for electric vehicles. The decision, effective from May 15, aims to promote environmental protection, fuel savings, and sustainable urban development in the national capital.
The move was approved in a meeting chaired by NDMC Vice Chairman Kuljeet Singh Chahal, where it was also decided to introduce shuttle bus services for employees from four residential colonies to Palika Kendra. These services will run on fixed schedules and will later be expanded to 14 more residential areas.
As part of its broader sustainability plan, NDMC has directed officials to use metro or public transport every Monday and encouraged carpooling and shared mobility. The council has also decided to halt the purchase of new petrol, diesel, and CNG vehicles for one year.
In addition, NDMC will strengthen cycling infrastructure using its existing 51 e-bike stations and around 500 bicycles, while promoting remote working, video conferencing, and reduced travel to improve efficiency and cut emissions. The civic body said these measures are aimed at building a cleaner, more energy-efficient, and sustainable transport ecosystem in Delhi.
