Battery-swapping solutions provider Indofast Energy and Hala Mobility, an EV-as-a-Service platform, have announced the expansion of their partnership to accelerate the electrification of India's last-mile delivery and gig economy fleets.
The companies said their existing collaboration has already deployed 15,000 electric vehicles in less than a year. The network currently operates across Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Delhi-NCR and Mumbai.
Under the expanded partnership, the companies aim to deploy 40,000 EVs by March 2027 and 100,000 EVs by March 2028. The expansion will also include new operations in Pune, Chennai and Jaipur, in addition to the existing cities.
The partnership combines Indofast Energy's battery-swapping infrastructure with Hala Mobility's fleet operations, enabling riders to swap depleted batteries with fully charged ones in around two minutes, eliminating long charging wait times. The companies said the model can reduce operating costs by up to 40% compared with petrol-powered vehicles, benefiting delivery riders who typically travel 80–100 km daily.
Rajat Malhan, Chief Business Officer at Indofast Energy, said battery swapping has emerged as the preferred solution for fleet operators seeking higher vehicle uptime and lower operating costs. He added that the partnership aims to build an integrated ecosystem to support the wider adoption of commercial electric mobility.
Srikanth Reddy, Founder of Hala Mobility, said the collaboration is designed to ensure delivery riders have consistent access to charged batteries while improving their daily earnings. He added that reaching 15,000 deployed vehicles in under a year demonstrates the scalability of the battery-swapping model and its potential to strengthen India's sustainable EV ecosystem.
Indofast Energy currently operates more than 1,900 battery swap stations across 24 cities. According to the company, its network supports over 120,000 vehicles, has enabled more than 2 billion kilometres of electric mobility, and helped avoid over 97,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions. Indofast Energy is a joint venture between Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) and SUN Mobility.
Hala Mobility is an EV-as-a-Service platform that leverages generative AI to connect fleet operators and riders with electric vehicles, battery swapping, charging, and related mobility services.
