The Electronics & ICT Academy (E&ICT Academy) of the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT Roorkee) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with SkyySkill Academy to introduce certification courses in Electric Vehicle (EV) Technology. Announced on May 20, 2026, in Roorkee, Uttarakhand, the initiative is being seen as an important step toward structured skill development for India’s rapidly expanding electric mobility sector.
The programme has been designed for engineering graduates, diploma holders, and working professionals seeking specialised expertise in EV technology. The curriculum includes EV architecture, battery technology and battery management systems, electric motors, power electronics, charging infrastructure, diagnostics, safety systems, and vehicle energy optimisation. According to the institutions, the course structure combines theoretical learning with practical training.
The programme will include live online classes, practical lab exposure, assignments, and capstone projects based on real-world EV applications. Every participant will be required to complete a capstone project to demonstrate technical understanding and problem-solving skills. The initiative aims to prepare learners for career opportunities in EV manufacturing, research and development, and service operations. Successful participants will receive certification from E&ICT Academy, IIT Roorkee.
Prof. Sanjeev Manhas, Chief Investigator at E&ICT Academy, IIT Roorkee, said the collaboration is a significant step toward strengthening industry-academia engagement. He noted that the rapid growth of electric mobility requires a skilled workforce equipped with strong technical knowledge and practical expertise.
Himansu Sekhar Panda, CEO of SkyySkill Academy, said electric mobility is rapidly transforming the automotive sector and that industry-focused practical training is essential to meet workforce demands. He added that the partnership aims to prepare young professionals for careers in the EV industry.
The collaboration comes at a time when India’s EV market is witnessing rapid growth, driven by government policies, rising fuel prices, and increasing adoption of electric two-wheelers, three-wheelers, passenger vehicles, and commercial transport. However, the industry continues to face a shortage of trained professionals in areas such as battery systems, power electronics, and EV servicing.
The E&ICT Academy is an initiative supported by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India, focused on skill development and advanced training in electronics, ICT, and emerging technologies. SkyySkill Academy has previously conducted training programmes in EV technology, drone technology, and other advanced engineering fields.
Established in 1847, IIT Roorkee is one of India’s oldest technical institutions and is recognised as an Institute of National Importance.
