Honda Says EVs Best Suited for Urban Areas
Honda believes electric mobility is currently best suited for urban areas with strong charging infrastructure. Under its multi-fuel strategy, the company has introduced the QC3 Family electric scooter as a pilot in select cities.

Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) believes that electric mobility is currently most suitable for densely populated urban areas with reliable charging infrastructure. The company says the future of mobility will not rely on a single powertrain but will be driven by a multi-fuel, multi-pathway approach.

Speaking at the HMSI 2026 event, Krishnakumar, General Manager – Product Planning, said Honda has long been working on a strategy where electric mobility is an important part of the company's future, but not the only solution.

"We believe the future of mobility is multi-fuel, multi-pathway, with electric mobility being an important part of that future," he said.

He added that electric vehicles are currently best suited for cities with dense populations and well-developed charging infrastructure. This philosophy is guiding Honda's phased rollout of new electric products.

QC3 Family to Launch as a Pilot

At the event, HMSI unveiled the QC3 Family electric scooter, which will initially be introduced as a pilot project in select urban markets instead of a nationwide launch.

Krishnakumar said the phased rollout will allow Honda to gather customer feedback, refine the product, and ensure a quality-first market introduction.

"We always introduce new technology responsibly, with quality as our top priority. Launching the QC3 as a pilot in select markets gives us an opportunity to learn, improve, and deliver the right product to the right customer," he said.

145 km Range and Smart Features

The QC3 Family is powered by a 3 kWh battery, offering an IDC-certified range of 145 km. The scooter can be charged from 0 to 80% in 2 hours and 40 minutes and features 32 litres of under-seat storage, a 5-inch TFT display, and Honda RoadSync connectivity.

Honda Sticks to Multi-Powertrain Strategy

Alongside the electric scooter, HMSI also showcased its flex-fuel two-wheelers, premium roadsters, cruisers, and adventure motorcycles, reinforcing its belief that electrification is not a one-size-fits-all solution. Instead, the company aims to offer multiple powertrain options to meet diverse customer needs and usage conditions.

As EV adoption continues to grow in India, charging infrastructure is expanding at different speeds across regions. In response, two-wheeler manufacturers are balancing investments across internal combustion engines, alternative fuels, and electric mobility, reflecting the country's evolving transportation landscape.
