Dr Yashodhan Gokhale, currently Vice President, Battery Technology at JSW Energy, is set to join Amara Raja as Head of Engineering. In his new role, he will oversee engineering activities related to battery packs and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
The appointment comes as Amara Raja expands its new-energy business and increases investments across both segments. The company is setting up a 5 GWh BESS manufacturing facility with an investment of around INR 280 crore, with production targeted to begin in Q4 FY2027.
Meanwhile, the first phase of the company battery-pack manufacturing facility in Telangana has a capacity of 1.5 GWh. Commercial supplies of battery packs for two-wheelers and three-wheelers have already commenced from the facility.
Gokhale brings more than two decades of experience across battery technology, materials, electric mobility and energy storage. He joined JSW Energy in 2024 and has been involved in its battery technology programmes. Before JSW Energy, he served as Chief Technology Officer at Battrixx and Vice President, Energy Storage at Kalyani Powertrain.
His career also includes an extensive stint with Octillion Power Systems, where he worked on lithium-ion battery systems and electric mobility projects. He has also held various roles at Customized Energy Solutions and Tata Motors. His technical expertise spans battery-pack development, Battery Management Systems (BMS) and energy storage applications.
Amara Raja Energy & Mobility is expanding its new-energy business through its subsidiary Amara Raja Advanced Cell Technologies. The company has committed an investment of around INR 9,500 crore over 10 years towards its Giga Corridor in Telangana, which includes manufacturing and research infrastructure for its new-energy operations.
Gokhale appointment will bring his expertise in automotive battery packs and stationary energy storage under a broader engineering mandate. Amara Raja is strengthening its engineering and manufacturing capabilities for electric mobility and stationary energy storage alongside its established automotive and industrial battery businesses.
