Luxury carmaker BMW India has launched its new i5 Long Wheelbase (LWB) electric sedan in India at an introductory ex-showroom price of Rs 79.6 lakh. The model is locally produced at the BMW Group Plant Chennai, with deliveries already underway. Customers can book the electric sedan through BMW dealerships and the company’s website.
The BMW i5 LWB is offered in the eDrive35L M Sport variant, while the First Edition is also priced at Rs 79.6 lakh. The First Edition was limited to 99 units, all of which were sold before the official launch, according to the company. BMW is also offering a finance plan with EMIs starting at Rs 79,999 and an assured buyback value of 55 percent after a four-year tenure.
The BMW i5 LWB gets an 81.6kWh battery pack, offering up to 669km of range under the MIDC test cycle. It is powered by a single electric motor producing 268hp and 410Nm of torque. The sedan can accelerate from 0-100kph in 6.7 seconds and has a top speed of 195kph. It supports DC fast charging at up to 160kW, with BMW claiming a 10-80 percent charging time of 33 minutes.
In terms of dimensions, the i5 LWB measures 5,175mm in length, 2,156mm in width and 1,520mm in height, with a 3,105mm wheelbase. The cabin features a BMW Curved Display comprising a 12.3-inch information display and a 14.9-inch control display. Standard features include vegan upholstery, front-seat ventilation, a Sky Lounge panoramic glass sunroof, four-zone air conditioning and a Bowers & Wilkins surround sound system.
On the technology and safety front, the BMW i5 LWB comes with BMW Operating System 8.5, Intelligent Personal Assistant, Remote Software Upgrades and the MyBMW App. The Digital Key Plus feature allows users to use a compatible smartphone or smartwatch as a vehicle key. Safety features include eight airbags, Active Cruise Control, Parking Assistant Professional, Remote Parking, Lane Change Warning, Cross Traffic Warning and Front-Rear Collision Warning. The sedan comes with a standard two-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty, while the high-voltage battery is covered for eight years or 160,000km.
