The government of Bihar has approved the ‘Bihar Electric Vehicle Policy-2026’ aimed at reducing fuel dependency, promoting environmental protection, and curbing pollution. The policy focuses on accelerating the adoption of electric vehicles and developing a green transport ecosystem in the state.
Under the new policy, the government has announced financial incentives across different EV categories. Women purchasing electric cars will receive a direct subsidy of ₹1 lakh, while buyers of electric two-wheelers will get ₹10,000 for the general category and ₹12,000 for SC/ST beneficiaries. Electric cargo three-wheelers will also receive support ranging from ₹50,000 to ₹60,000 depending on the category.
Additionally, all registered electric vehicles in the state will be eligible for a 50% exemption in motor vehicle tax. The government has also included benefits under the scrapping policy to encourage the removal of old and polluting vehicles, supporting a faster shift towards electric mobility.
According to government estimates, the policy could save around 10 crore litres of petrol and diesel annually by 2030. The state has also set a target of achieving 30% electric vehicle adoption among new registrations by 2030, along with significant expansion of charging infrastructure and job creation opportunities in the green mobility sector.
