Electric two-wheeler manufacturer Ather Energy has begun rolling out a major software update that introduces AI-powered voice control capabilities across its electric scooter portfolio. The new ‘Voice on Ather’ interface is being deployed through an over-the-air (OTA) update and will be available on all Gen 3 and subsequent scooter platforms. The initiative is aimed at providing riders with a safer, more convenient, and hands-free riding experience.
Powered by artificial intelligence, the voice system can understand natural speech patterns, allowing riders to issue conversational commands instead of interacting with the touchscreen dashboard. The feature works with Ather’s proprietary smart helmet as well as compatible third-party Bluetooth headsets. Since the update is delivered remotely via OTA technology, customers can access the new functionality without visiting a dealership or service center.
According to the company, the feature is currently being rolled out to the Ather 450X, Ather 450 Apex, and Rizta Z models. Through voice commands, riders can search destinations for navigation, locate nearby charging stations, modify display settings, control music playback, adjust regenerative braking settings, and share live telemetry data—all without taking their hands off the handlebars.
Speaking about the development, Tarun Mehta, Co-founder and CEO of Ather Energy, said that audio-based interfaces represent the next major evolution in rider technology. He added that the company’s long-term vision is to create an operating environment where riders no longer need to look at an instrument display while riding. The launch of ‘Voice on Ather’ marks a significant step toward software-driven, hands-free mobility experiences in India’s growing electric two-wheeler market.
