Commercial vehicle manufacturer Ashok Leyland and the Centre of Excellence for Zero Emission Trucking (CoEZET) at IIT Madras have launched the ‘GET ZET – Electric Truck Awareness to Acceptance’ initiative. The programme will conduct demonstration drives across 40 cities to increase awareness and acceptance of battery electric trucks.
The initiative began in Chennai on September 29, 2026, and will continue until February 2027. It will cover major logistics hubs and industrial corridors across 14 states and the National Capital Territory of Delhi. The programme will bring together fleet owners, logistics operators, financiers, load providers, infrastructure partners, policymakers and industry experts.
As part of the programme, Ashok Leyland will showcase its electric mobility solutions. The company BOSS Electric truck, along with its charging setup, will be demonstrated to provide participants with first-hand exposure to the electric truck and its associated charging infrastructure.
The programme will cover Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh. The initiative is aimed at providing stakeholders with insights into the opportunities and challenges associated with the transition towards zero-emission commercial transportation.
Ashok Leyland MD and CEO Shenu Agarwal said the initiative is aimed at bringing electric truck technology closer to customers and other stakeholders to build confidence in the technology. According to Prof. Manu Santhanam, Dean (ICSR), IIT Madras, CoEZET has been working on zero-emission truck adoption since 2022, covering areas such as policy, technology, skilling and outreach.
The programme will also include hands-on trial rides, allowing drivers to experience electric trucks directly and address concerns related to the technology. CoEZET said these interactions are intended to support greater acceptance of battery electric trucks among the trucking community.
