Dr. Sharanaprakash Rudrappa PatilMinister for Medical Education, Skill Development Department, Government of Karnataka

Dr Sharanaprakash Patil, (born 20-04-1967) is a four-time MLA representing Sedam assembly constituency in Kalaburgi district in Kalyana-Karnataka region. He is presently a cabinet minister in the Siddaramaiah led Congress government in Karnataka holding all important portfolios – Medical education, skill development, livelihood & entrepreneurship. Dr Patil, who is doctor by profession having done MBBS, MD in dermatology also a medical education minister from 2013-18. While studying MBBS, Dr Patil was active in politics by taking up pro-public and pro-poor causes through NSUI. As a minister of medical education during his first stint, Dr Patil was responsible for establishing medical colleges and research institutes in most of the districts in Karnataka and also wants super-speciality hospitals that are on-par with AIIMS in all districts in the state. His dream of bringing All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) to Raichur, a backward district in Karnataka is at advanced stage and the Centre at any moment is expected to grant one. As Dr Patil is multi-pronged personality his interest area is vast. However, his innovative ideas to bring changes in the administration and functioning of government remains close to his heart. He has been tirelessly working towards doctor availability ratio to the patient in the government hospitals. (doctor-patient ratio). Not to forget, Dr Patil is a voracious reader and a fitness enthusiast. Considering Dr. Patil’s working nature, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has entrusted him additional portfolio on entrepreneurship and skill development. In less than a year, Dr Patil initiated several measures of entrepreneurial skills to women from rural parts of Karnataka. He organized two mega events – one in north & other in southern Karnataka – for women to display their entrepreneurial talents. National Urban & Rural Livelihood missions which empowers rural women to become entrepreneurs remains close to his heart
