Shri Ajit B. Chavan is a Civil Servant from the Central Secretariat Service (1995 batch) in the
rank of Joint Secretary to the Govt. of India,
He is presently serving as the Additional CEO and Chief Seller Officer as well as Chief
Marketing Officer at the Government e-Marketplace (GeM), Ministry of Commerce and Industry,
Government of India from 24th January 2023.
Shri Chavan has been instrumental in driving ease of entry in GeM Portal over last year
resulting into addition of 7 lakhs plus sellers almost 55% increase over base of last 7 years.
In 2023-24, GeM has clocked a Gross Merchandise Value of more than 4 Lakh crore in the past
financial year.
In his career, spanning 27+ years in the Government, Shri Chavan has worked intensely in the
fields of Textiles, Trade and Commerce, Agriculture, Health and Family Welfare, and Heavy
Industries sectors and by his work has acquired rich experience in Policy Design and
Implementation.
